I. A Rahman (born 1930) has been associated with Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) since 1990 and is currently working as its Secretary-General.He has also been a journalist since 1950.He served (1989-90) as Editor- in-Chief of the Pakistan times, Lahore- Islamabad where he had spent 24 Years (1950 - 74) in various capacities (Cinema critic, editor editorial page,lead writer).During 1970 - 71he worked as a managing editor of an Urdu daily,Azad,which apposed the War in Bengal.He spent the Zia period (1978 - 88)as the executive editor of weekly Viewpoint,a leading independent publication.He was dismissed from service for trade union activities and detained for his views and work for civil liberties.Besides hundred of articles and papers contributed to national & foreign publications he has three books to his credit: Jinnah as a parlimentarian(co-editor), 1977; Arts and Crafts of Pakistan (1983); and Pakistan under Siege, a collection of columns (1990). He recieved the Nuremberg City's International Human Rights Award in 2003 and the Magsaysay Award in 2004.

Call for Papers – Deadline for submission of Abstracts 15th June, 2019 Seventh International Conference on Karachi November 2019 Karachi

This is a call for Papers for the 7th International Conference on Karachi 2019, arranged by its patron organization the Karachi Conference Foundation (KCF). This year we invite papers on all themes and subjects related to Karachi, but especially on certain themes, which are felt crucial to the city's wellbeing, necessarily the overall changing nature of the metropolis due to new pressures. The conference has a multidisciplinary approach and showcases research and scholarship on Karachi that may additionally have an impact on the larger context of Sindh. The Abstracts Committee shall consider any theme/sub-theme that could not be included in our previous conferences. All abstracts regardless of selection will be published in the form of a booklet prior to the conference. Interested participants are invited to submit their abstracts of not more than 300, words, along with the short profile ranging in between 200-250 words to karachiconference@gmail.com by 15th June 2019. Selected participants shall be informed of the acceptance of their abstracts by 15th July 2019. Submission of full papers by 15th October, 2019
